Cooking
Each meal we provide is freshly cooked by volunteers.
There is a lead and an assistant cook for each meal, and new volunteers may like to start off as assistant until they become confident to lead; lead cooks also plan the menu and shop for ingredients in advance. Commitment is organised via a rota, and for all roles we suggest a minimum commitment of once a month.
Cooks are always very welcome to stay, eat, and chat to people. The food is important, but what many volunteers find most meaningful about the evening is the chance to connect with people in their humanity and hear their stories.
Hospitality
We aim to provide a warm welcome as well as good food! Hospitality volunteers greet everyone who turns up, and create conversation during the meal. They generally also pitch in with serving food, clearing plates, and tidying the kitchen after the meal.
